Fallin', Fallin', Fallin', Fallin'...

Do you ever start singing a song and then have that song change into a totally different song? And then your mind is just stuck on that one segment of notes that bridges the two parts? Yknow what I mean??

I was telling Craigo the other day that my Ghostbuster's theme song always turns into "In Too Deep" by Sum 41. He helped me solve the problem.

Right now I sometimes get stuck when "1901" by Phoenix turns into "Kids" by MGMT. I go "girlfriend, no your girlfriend, duh duh duh trippin away... past and present eighty fifty five nineteen oh-one duh nuh nuh must've hurt a lot I guess not... control yourself... take only what you neeeed from it...". I don't even know if those are the right lyrics, and they probably aren't. But that's how I sing it! And it gets stuck like that sometimes!

OH dude I should make up a word for that.

Songzitions.

BOOM done. Twas a combo of "song" and "transition".

songzition - occurs when often misinterpreted notes of a song trigger a person's mind to change songs in mid-singing.
Example: (see paragraph of "1901" and "Kids")

When I started writing this entry, I never intended to make up a new word... oh well. I just did it. THAT. JUST. HAPPENED. (Was that a Will Farrell movie quote? Anyone know which one? Talladega I'm thinkin'?) No I was actually gonna talk about college. HUZZARS!

Lemme first declare that yesterday was all kinds of boring. Here's what happened:
  • Go to art! I don't feel like drawing.
  • We get let out an hour and a half early. Almost 2 hours till work.
  • Walkin' around... lookin' for friends... search ends zero results...
  • Library is interesting??
  • It isn't.
  • I try to draw... end up drawing man out of proportion. For me, that's quite demoralizing - drawing a person that doesn't look like a person. That's like eating a cake that tastes like broccoli YES THAT ANALOGY APPLIES. (assuming you don't like broccoli? I'm actually impartial to it.)
  • I fall asleep on the desk (first nap at college!!)
  • Wake up, go to the end of an art club meeting.
  • Blah blah go to work, more boring stuff ensues, and so on.
Yup, my day was about as interesting as riding in a car blindfolded. I mean, you can twirl your thumbs a little, but other than that, you just gotta sit there YES THAT ANALOGY APPLIES AS WELL.

But today was all kinds of FUN! At least more than usual.
  • Got to school, drew a picture of an epic old guy in my sketchbook from the computer. Life needs more epic old people. I'd love to see a few dozen Gandalfs running around the street... but at the same time I'd be terrified.
  • In math we learned how to find the area of a shape! Yeah actually that might be a downside of the day. OH but upside, I finished my homework for Tuesday! So peanut butter kudos.
  • Hung out with some people from my 2D Design class. I consider them my friends now, AND YKNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!? I have at least one friend in all of my classes! Awesome-sauce! Most of them are Asian though. Not sure why I'm pointing that out...
  • It was "Snow Day" at CSUF and they had a snow slide and a snow pit thing with a snowman. I was hanging out with Jackson (a guy I hang out with) and he said "I kind of want to go on that slide." "Yeah, me too." "Let's do it!" So we did. Twice. And it was fun.
  • While waiting for my food at Green Burrito, a guy said to me "hey, you dropped your money". I look down at the ground and there's a wad of cash on the floor. "Holy smokes! How foolish of me!" I says in my head. I pick up the bills, it equaled at least $50.00! I then realized "wait a minute... I only had three dollars in my wallet..". Turns out some other guy behind me dropped it. I happily handed it back to him and he said thank you with that "OH WHA..." look on his face, probably thinking "Holy smokes! How foolish of me!". As he walked away I mumbled a "Merry Christmas..!".
  • I hung out with Jackson a lil more, then went to my freehand drawing art class...
  • ...which really wasn't painful at all! So that's new. It was just a general relaxing work day and I got to awkwardly draw one of my classmates upon the professor's request.
So to sum up the excitement of those bullet points, yesterday was boring and today was fun. Odd how the quality of the days can vary so much for no real reason, dontcha think? Unlike similar sounding songs, life often has no transitions.

SO DEAL.

Unrelatedly...

HAHA while I was watching The Office just now, I switched to Supernatural during the commercial. Here's what I saw:
-Guy A reading a book... in the dark.-

-Guy A turns around and Guy B is in the room with him-

A: Where've you been?

B: Jerusalem.

A: How was it?

B: Arid.

...Nope.

Finally in Kevin's Mundane Life News, my Christmas tree is up, now complete with big pockets of darkness from the unevenly placed Christmas lights! Holiday spirit deliciousness!!

Ten Gents

Today's entry theme: Ten gents walk into a bar. One guy says "Word play." 8 of them don't say a thing because they don't get it. The other 1 doesn't say a thing because he gets it.

First to bat, MY NAIL FINALLY FELL OFF!!!!!!!! Last Friday. If you don't know why it fell off, then read my earlier Kanga posts. Contrary to popular belief, parts of my body do not dismantle often. Here's a picture of when Blacky was still attached:

Not a close up for your satisfaction.

THEN!

THEN! I actually got a picture of it as it was falling off! AMAZING, RIGHT?!

My nail FLYING OFF MY FINGER!

I had too much fun with that.

I also have awweeesomely gruesome pictures of my finger (the "awe" kind of awesome, not the awesome kind of awesome, nor the "aww" kind of awesome) that I decided to centaur censor from your fragile consternation. But if you are an exception with toughness like a dozer of bulls and WANT to see my ante-naked, gross finger (in different stages), just send me a message with the subject of "Eh? Des Borus!?". I'd be honored.

(It it just me or was that last paragraph sorta confusing to read? Mmm probably just me.) (Also, "Des Borus" has no meaning whatsoever. Made it up. "Eh", however is a word commonly found in Canada.)

OH I forgot to tell the story of how it came off:

I was opening a car door and it got caught on something and fell off. Didn't hurt. Then uh... I ran... over to my desk and took a picture of it as it was still in the air.

WOWOW ironically, when I was around 5yizo, I slammed a car door on my thumb and a couples weeks later that nail came off! (P.S. A thumb is a finger. We have 10 fingers. Get over it.)

Twas also funny cuz this nail fell off on my first day of work!

Work?

Yeah!

I work as a "Student Production Assistant", and if you were following me on Twitter WHICH I KNOW YOU WERE YOU GOOD PERSON, you'd have known my first day was last Friday!

Company: CSUF Distance Education... something like that. They're in charge of the online classes on the Fullerton website.

Job Description: Convert VHS's into DVDs, upload DVDs onto a computer, edit some movies with Adobe Premiere, help film some videos (documentation stuff, not really movies), work on some Adobe Flash projects.

Not Job Description: Help little kids with homework. MUAHAHAHHA YAAAAY!

This job is SO choice, especially since it's right next to CSUFullerton! I also get to play around with almost every single Adobe program on my down time! Isn't this job RIGHT ON THE MONEY for me?! Oh, hah, literally.

I mean it when I say I feel really lucky to have this job.

I also mean it when I say that Obama does not deserve a Nobel Piece Prize for showing "good effort and incredible promise..!". Sorry for coming out of nowhere with this, but I'm just SAYIN. He didn't do jack diddly squat! Well okay, he did a couple things, such as not look gross without a shirt, but I just wanted to use "jack diddly squat" in a sentence.

Don't read me wrong, I have nothing against the Obamers as a person. I actually don't have a lot of stuff against people (other than my body up against yours WHAOSPONTANEOUSPICKUPLINEBUTNOTREALLY?!), maybe I just avoid certain people before I get to know how awful they really are. I'm looking at you, Bruce Banner. But I don't wanna talk about meeting people right now! No! I want to uh-... oh wait. Yeah actually I sorta do.

I enjoy meeting people, ...or rather knowing people. People at school, specifically. I think the reason I like going to Fullerton now is because I know people. Not a lot, just a few, but that's all I need. In a swarm of unfamiliar faces, it's so nice to recognize a friend. I thought of this a couple weeks ago when I was walking around with my art class to draw parts of the campus. I saw someone I had met earlier, and I felt immediately comforted. I waved "hi" and talked a little bit.

The second, incredibly ironic thing is that her name was Whitney. Wow, didn't realize that until just now! How cool. So many small things to just keep me going! For example, one of the little things I enjoy about college is walking up and down stairs. Especially the basementy kind. It's sort of hard to explain why I like it, especially since it's all kinds of tiring when my class is on the 5th floor, but I do, I enjoy it. Right now, anyway.

It's these minor *happenings* that make all the difference for me. A few weeks ago I had to fill up a few pages of my sketchbook for class. I decided to go draw something I liked on Flickr (a first) and I came out with this.

And by-golly-sons-of-George, I was so proud of it! I was surprised at how... GOOD it turned out! It was supposed to be an insignificant drawing to fill up these pages, like all the faces I drew back in the Whitney days which always looked like some webble katch on acid. HAHA obscure reference. (But not really, there's not such thing as a "webble katch" because I made it up. That's how bad my drawings were, though. They were unreal bad.) But this, THIS, looked like the girl in the picture. It looked like a real person.

After that sketch, I couldn't draw on the page anymore as to not ruin my graphite baby. (Yes, using "graphite baby" in a sentence automatically makes you an artsy geek.)

Earlier, I didn't understand why my previous sketchbooks were filled with ambiguous shapes ranging from stick figures to turds. I thought I was just a blahblah drawer who was only decent at cartoons. And then this happened. THIS single drawing has turned my mentality around. It inspires me to draw more. That's a first - inspiring myself.

Now I look forward to drawing from Flickr almost every day (as long as I'm not lazy and or tired). Now YOU should look forward to when I'm gonna post all my other sketches! It shall be nice, and you shall like it.

Ah...

Art is great.

Yeah.

This blog is great.

Also, I am grateful for my job.

Another gear grinding issue, why is "greatful" not a word? Can Webster PLEASE just synonymize it with "grateful"!? Do you realize how many essays teachers will have to recall for false grammatical errors?? But I do have to applaud the English language for housing "synonymize" as a real word (despite blogspot's redline naysay). Good move. If language were playing chess, I believe that would result in a "check". Legalize "grateful" to make it a "checkmate" now.

DINGAHINGADARGA another confusing paragraph.

Ah well. You should go sleep. You're probably reading this in the middle of the night. If not, go take a nap. Catch up on your beauty sleep. You deserve it.

College Collage

Post about first week of college! Post about first week of college! Post about first week of college! Post about first week of college! Post about first week of college!

Okay I will!
Q: Random picture? Or tied into the post?!

College is supposed to be a new experience, right? I should have tons of new material to talk about, partying and getting lost and whatnot, but I don't. If someone asks me about how college is, I can only say "twas pretty cool" or something Kevin-y like that. I can't say something like "oh man, everyone's so intense!!" because A) everyone isn't so intense, and B) I can't imagine what the heck that means. What I'm trying to say is that nothing incredible or bizarre has happened. YET.

But for now I'll bullet point my way through this entry. Bullet points are awesome because they eliminate the need for transitions. Especially bad ones. Like this transition from up there to down here. Anyway the following is the college collage... part.
  • Odd silence. ODD, not awkward. Walking around campus, there's an odd silence that I sometimes come across. No one near me is really talking, since a lot of people are alone. It's almost creepy. Dude, could you imagine if I farted during those times of odd silence??? 30ish people would've heard me! Have you EVER had your fart heard by more than 5 people? Exactly. This is one of my fears.
  • Meeting friends is kinda tricky, but luckily a lot of people are really nice. I was incredibly happy to meet like two guys in my classes... although Jane often tells me entire histories of about 20 people she already met in an hour. She may have upped me on both quality and quantity... but my friends are probably cooler.
  • There are lotsa stairs. Anybody reading that sentence will probably say "duuhh!!", but I'm not really used to it! Going to class on the "5th floor" is a new foreign concept to me - I'm pretty sure Whitney had a negative amount of stairs. (Possible?!)
  • Laptop? I actually don't need this for any of my classes this semester. Use it on my downtime like right now? YES SIR!
  • No lockers because of dorms and cars.
  • CSUF is surprisingly very bright, probably due to the white pavement everywhere. I have to wear my sunglasses to block out all the brightness. Also, to look suave.
  • The food is quite scrumptious here, and I doubt it will exponentially get worse as the years go on like SOME OTHER SCHOOL I KNOW... rhymes with "witney"...
  • PARKING. SUCKS. If you're planning to go to CSUF, know that the parking sucks more than a thirsty baby hippo on a bald guy's sweaty head. I have to arrive here at 8:00AM, just to park on the very top (5th) floor of one of the parking structures. Then, last Thursday, it took me a half an hour to get from the top to the streets. What da eff, I says. I heard that it fortunately gets better as the year goes on... but curse you, 5,000ish parking spaces and 22,000ish parking permits!!
  • STORY: One time at around noon, I had to go to my car in the parking lot. As I was walking there, there were maybe like 15 cars just circling and driving around the lot. Two people asked if I were leaving so they could take my spot. One car just started following me. I felt bad, but angry and annoyed at the same time, so I just flicked them off. HAHA just kidding. I didn't feel bad. HAHA just kidding again.
  • They do take roll in college. At least for small class. HUH!
  • I've had a lot of "aauugghh" moments this past week. It's usually just small things like I forgot my pencil or I brought the wrong book, but I thought it was worth mentioning. It's kinda fun to just SAY "augh". I think I picked up the phrase from listening to too much of the webcomics weekly podcast (where I was mentioned twice!). I also picked up the word "gorsh" from there. Oh those crazy guys!
So that's my first week of college. Some stuff familiar, some stuff new, all in all a good experience so far. Yeah, today Kevin is boring with his descriptions. But in the future, he'll be better! He described more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow.

High fives to those who got the lyric reference.

and A: SORTA TIED IN!

So Proetic

Oh my gosh I read everyone's blogs again.

So much college stuff!

All this celebration, despair, and farewell! Some made it to their dream colleges! Others... not so much! Reminiscence fills our minds! Every one talks of yearning the past yet looking forward to the future! They say NAY I shall not forget those who've loved and YAY to adventures which lie ahead! So much hope and hesitation, doubt and aspiration, it is emotions of such that underlay the very bellies of our adolescent lives! It is our transformation in the form of an unsteady seal that crosses pages from chapter to chapter!

(That was all said with me jumping around the room in circles.)

But yeah, I feel kinda eh because I didn't have a dream school. Animation? CSUF has a pretty awesome program, but that doesn't sound as cool as HARVARD or STANFORD. I guess it could've been Cal Arts, but... nah. So while I'm REALLY excited for college right now, probably not to the extremity as everyone else?

Yknow what I am excited for? CAAAANDAY! Just kidding. I'm excited to start my own webcomic and kick some tail in animation. I'd be excited for cookies too, though!

Okay I'm bored of typing now. LET'S GO NOT STUDY FOR COMPS EVERYONE!

Video maAANiaa!

Big day for Kevin Lam! Today, not one, but THREEish of my videos played in front of an audience!

The first one was a Comiclub Cape-Making Activity video:

Yeah, that's my voice. This is what you get for 5 hours of my Friday night!!

Yay for fun advertisement.

My second video called "The Ritutal" and my third called "The Voyage", played today at the contemporary media mini film festival today! 'Twas a joint effort between me and Craig The-guy-with-a-mowhawk-so-cool-that-7th-graders-always-have-to-stop-and-either-A-compliment-him-,-or-B-touch-his-hair Machado, although Craig was more ritual, and I was more voyage. I hope we're in the Top 10! Good job everyone else! Alright for positiveness!

And I totally finished my SSR's at 11:00pm today. I'll accept high-fives with willing participants.
