Fundane Activities

I went to an art store.

and that's the BORING version of the story! Today's errand could have been seen as nothing special, but oh, it sorta was! So much so that I'm makin' an entry about it. Snappidy doo dah.

My mission was to go down to the Art Supply Warehouse, so I took Beach Boulevard all the way south to Westminster. And I saw the coolest things.

Chapter 1: Rally's
I totally saw a Rally's. It's a burger joint, if you didn't know. I've NEVER seen one before and I was going crazy because I didn't realize the commercial for Rally's was so ingrained into my head! It had a little tune that I hear in my cranium once in a while that goes like (Kevin's version because he doesn't really know the words):
"When it's in your eyes
There's no surprise,
You've got a thing...
For Rally's.
Gotta eat - ain't nothing like this
Gotta eat - ain't nothing like this.
"
So this Rally's down Beach Blvd. was a myth becoming true. Much like Sonic's, I was always befuddled as to WHERE this restaurant was, much less if it actually EXISTED. Well today I found out it does exist.

Chapter 2: Hookers and Cowboys
After driving passed Medieval Times and RALLY'S, I felt there was a sense of mystery on this street. I glanced to my right and there was a group of people walking down the street - maybe around 7 of 'em. One of the ladies was blond with a super short pants, so (I apologize now in advance), my first thought was "DAYTIME HOOKER?!". Methinks I watched a little too much My Name Is Earl.

I looked again in curiosity, not interest, to find out that it was just a regular group of people. "Aw thas not as exciting" I thought, but then I noticed that two of the four guys had cowboy hats. I don't know about you, but I've never seen someone wear a cowboy hat as standard attire, at least not in real life. Maybe I should try Texas?

Chapter 3: Robin Hood
From 1900's to 1400's. I didn't actually see a guy dressed up as Robin Hood, but I saw some mama-papa motel covered in pink that looked like it hadn't been renovated since the 1960's. In the front it had a big sign of a Robin Hood figure who was making a "Shh... be quiet" gesture with his finger, which was tied into the name of the motel somehow. I don't remember the name, so I'll assume it was something like "Ye Old Inn" or something awesome to that degree. Or POSSIBLY, it still held on to archaic terms that don't translate well to modern day lingo, such as "Inn the Hood". Regardless, the sight was both intriguing and horrifying.

Chapter 4: Mini-car
Still driving down this street, I see a tiny convertible car pop out of a neighborhood along the sidewalk. It was about the size of queen size bed. By now I should have EXPECTEDto see such an oddity, but my reaction was still "WHAT da eff was that!?". With closer inspection, I found out it wasn't a CAR car, I think it was more like some kind of cart used to transport stuff, but it was still as random as helium.

See? "Helium" makes no sense in that sentence. Too random.

Chapter 5: Art Supply Warehouse
Alas, I arrived at the X on the map (see, title of chapter). I imagined it being a Costco version of Tall Mouse, what with the word "Warehouse" in the name, that's not a noun you should abuse with exaggeration. I thought the place was gonna be huge. But it wasn't. It was average size. At least from the outside..!

Undeterred by the underwhelming size, I entered and was met with copious amounts of bodies. Many other people (not surprisingly) heard about the store's 25% off everything deal too. As routine when encountered with a bunch of strangers, I moved quickly in search of my destination (the paints, if you were curious), careful not to bump into anyone or wave my sniffer through a volume of floating body odor. "Just keep moving..."

Once I had all my paints in my basket, I granted myself leisure time to just explore the store. And lemme tell you guys, IT WAS SO MAGICAL! The place was actually a decent size! Every nook and cranny was filled with wall-to-wall supplies for any artistic endeavors of my choosing. I had never seen anything like it! DID YOU KNOW HIGGINS INDIA INKS COME IN A RAINBOW SELECTION OF COLORS?! (Don't answer that.)

It was like the first time I went to the huge Amazing Comics book store. Except this was COOLER! Because it sold materials for me to MAKE art, not just enthrall in the final product, and all the nerdy, middle-aged men were replaced with odorless introverts! That's gnarly if I've ever defined gnarly.

After an hour of browsing (hey they even sell BOOKS there!!!) and a free gift for buying supplies (a little monkey cut-out thing), I set off on the journey back home. Like the end of every adventure, nothing really happens on the way back home. And nothing did. (I took the freeway.)

But lesson learned, my friends! Fascinating sights are everywhere! You just gotta take notice.

Also, this was a result of impulse shopping while waiting in line to pay:

It's Bloove.It's candy. (Blooberry flavor.)

Sometimes I have dreams too.

White man look lame, black man look tight!

I shouldn't be updating My Kanga right now. Why? Because I have so much to do! And at the same time I have NOTHING TO DO. These moments in my life sure are perplexin'. LIKE YO MOMMA sorry insult spasm.

Now before I get down to business, I'll distract you with some other business. It's not poop.

Today was fun! Adventure!

Mini-pre-adventure: Lowes with Jane. I have no idea how we got there. Oh well, tubs and toilets.

Adventure Mission: WATCH A MOVIE!

1. With Craig Darren Paul...
2. Plan A: "LET'S WATCH PAUL BLART: MALL COP IN TOWN CENTER AT 12:30!" "AITE, QUALITY MOVIE RIGHT THERE!"
3. Get there at 12:45, turns out the movie started at 12:10...
4. Plan B: Go to Long Beach TC to watch Mall Cop at 1:30. Okay, we got time, totally do-able.
5. Darren drives freeway and takes us in the wrong direction.
6. We end up in Anaheim.
7. BACKTRACK to Cerritos TC, then take the RIGHT freeway to LBTC.
8. Darren misses the exit.
9. We get off at El Dorado park, drive all the way around that park, and finally reach our Plan B destination.
10. We get there at 1:40, turns out the movie is sold out until 2:50.
11. We can't watch the movie that late so we go to...
12. Plan C: Party at In-N-Out
13. Meet Taylor, get all fat, then drive back to Craig's house.
14. Play Gears of War 2 (FUNAWESOME with blood!), play Apples to Apples (FUNAWESOME without blood!), Watch Snakes on a Plane (with blood!).

Mission, for the most part, accomplished!

Life can never have too many adventures! Unless you're INDIANA JONES. GOOD GOD MAN, you're in your 60's! You gotta know when to retire!

Alright so if you didn't know, it's a tradition that I take a quiz thingy every Martin Luther King day. Why? I don't know. I'm the only one who knows about it anyway. I think last year I did "Which Superhero Are You?" I got Superman. Another time another quiz I got Luke Skywalker. THIS TIME IT'LL BE...

I AM
69%
JAZZ
Take the Transformers Quiz

Oh sweet that's cool. WAIT HE DIES IN THE MOVIE, DOESN'T HE?! Not cool, man. Oh well, he does spins and break dancey stuff.

I think that's all I have to type. OH FORMAL I still haven't talked about that! NEXT TIME I will so I don't forget about it. But for now... I really need to cut my nails.

Happy MLK Day.

Metroventures

When you think about the word "metro", what do you think of? The metro train thingy? That's what I think about too! I certainly don't think about a metrosexual. That would be ridiculous.

I thought I'd make a post last Saturday's adventure around LA and places. Elizabeth had a church... field trip... thing, so I tagged along for fun!

Mode of transportation: THE METRO, SILLY! Um, just "Metro", not "Metro Silly".

There was this really weird guy at the start of our adventure, the Norwalk train station... yknow, those guys that are sorta COOCOO IN THE HEAD without any kind of cereal incentive. He came up to me/Liz/Victoria/Alice and he started to direct our attention to a pigeon near the train tracks. We just kinda brushed him off, but then he jumped down, retrieved the bird, and tried to show it to us! I was really ready to shoo fly him like don't bother me, but he got distracted by some other poor victims a couple minutes later.

But anyways.

We made 4 stops.

Downtown LA
Tall buildings. Are so awesome. I haven't actually seen a surplus of tall buildings since... probably Las Vegas 3ish years ago. But it's different because LA buildings don't have lights and naked ladies on them. They have windows. I really enjoyed walking through the streets because it felt so... nitty gritty, so very real, making the experience feel ironically surreal at the same time. It reminded me of New York, even though I've never been there.

On the sidewalk I saw a message near the gutter drain that said "No Dumping Dolphins", which I found quite odd. Where would I get a Dolphin in LA. Well the word "Dolphin" was more of a picture than a word, so maybe that's not what they meant. They could've meant "shark". SPEAKING OF THAT MOMENT, my camera ran out of batteries, so I couldn't take pictures of interesting things like that Dolphin Dumping thing. Sad face. I shall steal the rest of the pictures from Liz's Facebook!

Hollywood
Elizabeth described Hollywood as just a richer version of LA, but I see it more as a meeting place for weirdos and tourists. The bizarre people do creepy stuff, and tourists take pictures! We walked down the street for a good 10 minutes, recognizing about 10% of the stars on the sidewalk. Seriously now, they should put explanations as to how these people got to have their name on the floor - why does Mr. Fleego Flagababa get his name next to Walt Disney?! But in any case, I used the bathroom at Hollywood Starbucks because I really had to go.

Union Station
It's a big train station! Go figure. Although I was confused whether "Union" was the name of the station, or "Union Station" was just kind of an inclusive title. Because if it were a title, wouldn't the correct name for it be "Union Station Station"? It might fall in the same fate as Comiclub Club.

We walked over to Olvera Street to look at all the nice Mexican trinkets. This would've been a big blast from the past of 4th grade field tripness, but I really don't remember my time there as a 10 year old. I think everything was a lot bigger back then. I guess they shrunk all the stores for whatever reason.

Chinatown
More like... HOMETOWN! Haha, get it, because I'm chinese. But honestly, this is the closest I'll ever get to China in like 50 years (because when I retire I might be able to go there..). Even though it lacked a Great Wall, it was still pretty cool to see this little square that celebrates all that is Chinese. After all the kids stared at Alice as she rode some weird machine thing, I bought myself a nice little stamp that stamps "Kevin" in Chinese!

We had dinner at supposedly the best restaurant in China town. It was either the best or the most famous... or both. THE SWEET AND SOUR FISH WAS DELICIOUS, everything else gets a "pretty tasty", although no one really dove for the chicken. Probably because everything already tastes like it.

And so ends our adventures! We literally (but actually figuratively) traveled the ENTIRE globe!: New York, Hollywood, Mexico, China. Technically I should be able to relate to all those places. Except New York.

Yup! I forgot my closing sentence.
